Michael Flanders and Joseph Horovitz wrote Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo in a popular style to appeal to both adult and children, whether singers or audience. It is a very engaging depiction of the story of Noah and his ark, with a bass soloist as the narrator along with the choir. The clever text and the varied jazz and dance rhythms tell the familiar story from unrelenting rain to watery waves and the rainbow.
Still with animals, we will sing Bob Chilcott’s settings of Aesop’s Fables. They bring a smile to the face and gently remind us of their moral messages.
From Fables to Folksongs set by contemporary composers. Three Welsh folksongs were arranged by Rhian Samuel, in Welsh but with her English translation. The choir will perform two songs in English and one in Welsh, another addition to our portfolio of performance languages.
The choir loves to perform works by Cecilia McDowall, especially since the commission of a piece by her for the choir in 2015. A Fancy of Folksongs is an imaginative setting of well-known songs about love.
